TIP 1 – CHECK YOUR SHOTS & SETTINGSWe will usually not have the chance to do test shots before the runway show begins. So when the show starts, do check your first few shots and make sure the lighting and exposures are correct. Relax and don’t rush through things even it you missed a good shot on the first couple of models. At least when you get your settings right, the rest of your shots will be PERFECT.
Try to keep the shutter speed to 1/200 or faster to FREEZE that runway moment, if not, you might get motion blur caused by the moving models.
TIP 2 – SNAP AT THE RIGHT POSTURE
Take the example below: because I am standing on the left side of the stage, taking a shot when the model strides on her right foot will give her a more flattering and demure posture than the one on her left foot.
If you are standing on the right side of the stage, it will be her left foot, and if you are in the center, it doesn’t matter as much. So feel the beat of the music and wait for that right moment.
TIP 3 – FIND THE BEST LIGHTING
Usually on such a long runway the lighting may not be distributed evenly, so identify the best spot and wait for the model to walk into that zone and SNAP.
